Bachok police chief DSP Yahya Salleh said the trainee pilot, Tuan Ahmad Huzaimi Tuan Mohd Kamal, 29, fractured his left leg while the instructor, Captain Ramesh Meruterana, 30, sprained his right ankle in the accident which occurred at about 4.30pm.

Both of them were rushed to the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) hospital in Kubang Kerian in a Civil Defence Department ambulance after rescue personnel and villagers helped to get them out of the aircraft, he said.

“Both men are in stable condition,” he told Bernama.

An eye-witness, Mohd Suhaimi Husin, 29, said he spotted the aircraft flying low and tilted to one side before it crashed.

He said he was driving from Jelawat to Kota Baharu then with a friend, Mohd Rudzuan Abdullah, 38.

“After we saw the plane go down, I stopped the car and we ran to the aircraft,” he said.

Mohd Suhaimi said he and Mohd Rudzuan helped to carry the trainee pilot and the instructor into the ambulance.

“I managed to speak to both the men and was told that the plane’s propeller had developed a fault before it crashed,” he said.

Mohd Rudzuan telephoned patrolling policemen soon after the incident, he said, adding that the call was made at 4.33pm according to the time registered on the mobile phone.

Another eye-witness, Aminah Mamat, 45, who lives in the vicinity, said she was shocked to see the aircraft flying low and almost hitting the water tank atop a bungalow nearby. — Bernama
